Poor Sophia is so sick. All week she has been a little off-not sleeping well, an upset tummy, a bad diaper rash, etc. Then on Friday she developed a temperature and things got worse from there. Friday night she was up all night, she just screamed and cried all night long. Nothing would make her feel better. She got about three hours of sleep total snoozing in my lap. So all day Saturday she was pretty out of it, just cuddling and being mellow. By Saturday night her fever was up to 104, she would barely react to anything, she would not eat or drink, and she was breathing very rapidly so we decided that we would not be able to wait till today to go to the doctor and we took her into the ER. Now the ER on a Saturday night is a really crazy place, just walking in we saw two police cars parked out front with their lights on and a county sheriff standing right inside looking for someone (more about that stuff soon). When we got to the ER they were very quick at getting Sophia checked in so they could start working to get her fever down. They gave her some medicine and then we had to go out to the waiting room to wait for the medicine to kick in and to wait for a room to open up for us. This is where the craziness of the ER on a Saturday night of a three day weekend comes into it. I am being pretty judgemental but we saw all types of interesting people and situations, there were some people that seemed like us ("normal"), there was a boy who looked like he had gotten shot in the ear with blood all over his shirt, there was another teen who was yelling about how he had just gotten out of the county jail and wanted a cigarette- his hands were all bandaged up like he had been in some huge fight. We also saw a guy that looked JUST like Jesse James in about 10 years which was crazy. There was a guy brought in on a gurney all strapped down accompained by two police officers, there was also a few people that seemed to be quite strung out- all in all it did not feel like the safest place to be. While killing time Steven and I planned all of our quickest exit plans if things got too crazy (we have definitely been watching too much Grey's Anatomy- if you saw the season finale you would know what I am referring to). When they finally brought us back it was past midnight, the doctor back there was very nice and she did a quick examination of Sophia and realized she has a bad case of tonsillitis. I saw her tonsils when the doctor was examining her and they were huge and spotted poor baby. They started her on amoxicillon right away and did a Strep test (which came back negative). We finally got home about 2:30 this morning. What a tiring night, yet reassuring to know what was making Sophia feel so awful and to be able to start her on antibiotics.
I have not seen Sophia so sick since she was born. I wish I could take all her pain away from her- poor thing. Hopefully she will feel better very soon and that this is not the beginning of a series of tonsil issues. Steven and I both had chronic tonsillitis as children and ended up getting our tonsils out so hopefully Sophia is not destined to the same fate.
We love our baby girl so much.

It is one of the most awful things to see our babies suffer and to not be able to figure what to do to make them feel better. I'm so glad the ER doctor figured out what was wrong. It sounds like it was a crazy place to be at that night though. Poor little Peanut -so sorry she has been so sick. Hopefully the medicine will help her feel better soon. I can't wait to see her happy, smiling face again.
See you soon!

Wow, what a crazy night. Happy that Sophie is recovering!
The good 'ol American health system- ER's bear the brunt of it! Hopefully things will change, but we'll see. :)
