What a week...

As I stated in the last post a few weeks ago Sophia had an ear infection and tonsillitis.  She finished the antibiotics a week from last Thursday.  By last Sunday she had a fever over 103 with Ibuprofen and a vicious cough.  Monday, a furlough day for me, I took her to the doctor.  The doctor said it sounded like a upper respiratory virus and to continue with her two inhalers and prescribed her some Prednisone to help clear her airway.

Fast forward till last Wednesday and our sweet girl really was not improving, and was actually getting worse, despite staying home, getting lots of cuddles and lots of rest.  Nights were the worst, she would cough and cough and cough- for hours, despite us trying everything we could do to give her some relief.  So after school last Wednesday my Mom, who stayed home with Sophia that day, met me with Sophia back at the doctors.  Sophia is such a pro, she walks in hops up on the scale, marches into the room, and doesn't make a peep during all the poking and prodding that ensues.  After listening to Sophia's lungs a bunch and checking out her ears it was determined that now Sophia has another ear infection and had developed pneumonia.  She was given new antibiotics, more Prednisone, nebulizer treatments, and another inhaler.  I took last Thursday off and Steven took last Friday.

This weekend has consisted of lots of cuddles and a sweet girl that just does not feel well.  The nebulizer treatments have helped her a lot but she just has not improved too much.  So back to the doctor we went today.  Today they examined Sophia and then decided to give her a chest x-ray.  The x-ray showed that she has pneumonia in each lung.  The doctor told us that we just need to stay the course with the antibiotics, inhaler, and breathing treatments and bring her back in if her temperature creeps above 100 degrees.  She also stated that this is just going to take a long time for her to heal and that she will just need lots of rest for at least a week or two, maybe more.  She said we really need to error on the side of caution because there can be some major setbacks in recovering from pneumonia if she is exposed to other illnesses or pushes herself too fast.  So giving Sophia rest is just what we plan to do- cuddle our girl, let her get lots of rest, and hope for a smooth recovery with no setbacks.

Here are some pictures of my girl from the last week or so...

Taking her nebulizer, the mask is called Tommy, the Turtle.

Her many different med's

She fell asleep for a minute one day while taking her nebulizer, which
was hard to believe since it is really loud.

At the doctor last Wednesday

Relaxing watching "Kids" as Sophia calls it-
she has really been into "19 Kids and Counting" lately

Again taking her medicine
